Common interests are the best relationship-building tool in a salesperson's communication toolbox. Eating establishments are nice but are not going to build a relationship. Hanging around with them after hours can be as dangerous as it is good and simply getting someone a gift certificate precludes you from going with them, thereby negating any chance you have of building a relationship.
