C. Give the customer a referral.
If you give a referral to your customer, they will go out of their way to give one back. The reason: They want another one. Only exceeding their expectations may provide an opportunity for a referral to occur, but this is nowhere near as powerful as giving in order to get. Only giving them what they order in no way sets the atmosphere for a referral. It doesn't even create an atmosphere for a reorder. Asking for a referral may be premature if you have not earned one.
